Attendance Allowance Points Calculator

This independent UK eligibility checker explains Attendance Allowance without inventing a points system. Attendance Allowance is not assessed using PIP-style points. The Department for Work and Pensions looks at the help or supervision you need because of a disability or health condition.

Attendance Allowance eligibility checker

2026/27 guide: lower rate £76.70 per week; higher rate £114.60 per week. The rate depends on the level of help needed, not a points total.

Important: this checklist does not decide entitlement. DWP makes the decision from the claim and supporting information. Scotland uses Pension Age Disability Payment instead of Attendance Allowance.

Does Attendance Allowance use points?

No. Unlike Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance does not have a published points threshold. GOV.UK describes eligibility in terms of disability or a health condition and the care or supervision a person needs. A website that assigns made-up points could therefore give a misleading result.

Who may qualify?

In Great Britain, the main GOV.UK conditions include being State Pension age or older, having a disability or health condition severe enough to require help caring for yourself or supervision for safety, and normally having needed that help for at least 6 months. Different rules can apply for people nearing the end of life. Residence and immigration conditions also apply.

Lower and higher rates in 2026/27

The confirmed 2026/27 weekly lower rate is £76.70 and the higher rate is £114.60. The lower rate generally applies where frequent help or constant supervision is needed during the day, or supervision at night. The higher rate generally applies where help or supervision is needed throughout both day and night, or under the special rules for people nearing the end of life.

Worked example

Suppose a person has reached State Pension age and has needed frequent daytime help because of a health condition for more than 6 months. There is no score to total. Their circumstances may fit the type of need associated with the lower rate, but DWP must assess the actual claim and all eligibility conditions.

What Attendance Allowance does not cover

Attendance Allowance does not provide a mobility component. It is not means-tested, so earnings and savings do not determine the rate. You also do not need to have a carer already providing the help in order to claim.

Limitations

This checker cannot assess every residence rule, overlapping benefit, care-home funding arrangement, special-rule claim or evidential issue. It cannot predict a DWP decision. If you live in Scotland, the relevant benefit is Pension Age Disability Payment rather than Attendance Allowance.
